PLANNING IN PRESTON

The Central Lancashire Core Strategy was adopted in July 2012.

Produced by Preston, South Ribble and Chorley councils, with assistance from Lancashire county council, its aim is to help co-ordinate development in the area and contribute to boosting employment and investment. It will encourage sustainable managed growth, whilst protecting and enhancing green spaces and access to open countryside.

The Preston Local Plan provides the spatial planning outline for the area. Preston City Council is responsible for a range of planning and environmental issues including nine conservation areas and environmental health.

Preston Local Plan (Site Allocations) 2012 - 2026

On 2 July 2015 the Preston Local Plan (Site Allocations) 2012-26 was adopted by the council. It now forms part of the statutory development plan. Most of the policies in the Preston Local Plan (2004) have been superseded – details of the residual policies which remain in force are included in appendix D of the new Local Plan.

The Development Plan

The Development Plan is the legal policy framework against which planning applications and other development proposals are assessed. In Preston, the Development Plan is comprised of:

The Joint Lancashire Minerals and Waste Local Plan (LCC website)

The adopted Central Lancashire Core Strategy

The adopted Preston Local Plan 2012 -2026

The emerging Preston City Centre Plan

The Inner East Preston Neighbourhood Plan

Some residual policies in the Preston Local Plan (2004) (see appendix D of the Preston Local Plan 2012 -2026)

These issues (and others) all need to be considered when contemplating developments requiring Planning Permission in the Preston area.

Ashall Town Planning can provide professional planning advice and assistance for your development in the Preston area.
