The village of Mellor lies two miles to the east of Marple, along the road from Marple Bridge to Hayfield.

The Mellor / Moorend Conservation Area is located towards the eastern end of this road, close to the present border between Stockport and Derbyshire.

The focus of the conservation area is around the hamlet of Moorend, but also includes the outlying farms of Longshaw Clough and Podnor and settlements at the end of Longhurst Lane, at Brook Bottom, Lower Hall and in the vicinity of St Thomas’ Church, including Mellor Hall.

Mellor/Moorend Conservation Area is closely associated with the Mill Brow Conservation Area to the north. Tracts of farmland separate the two areas, but they are linked both visually and historically.
